Questions fréquentes

I am vegetarian. Are EKABE products suitable for vegetarians?

Our entire EKABE range is suitable for lacto-vegetarians. Our fresh cheeses and our Kachkéis are made using microbial coagulants (no animal rennet), and our flans and desserts do not contain any animal-derived gelling gelatine.

Which products can I eat if I am lactose intolerant?

Our creams, quark and flans naturally contain lactose and are not suitable for people with lactose intolerance. However, our traditional Kachkéis is generally suitable for people with lactose intolerance. During production, the curd is thoroughly drained, removing almost all of the whey, so that lactose is present only in trace amounts.

Can I consume EKABE products during pregnancy?

All EKABE products sold in Luxembourg are made using pasteurised or UHT-sterilised milk, and are therefore perfectly suitable for pregnant women.

Is EKABE a Luxembourgish brand?

EKABE was indeed founded in Bettembourg in 1935 and has been part of the Grand Duchy’s heritage for 90 years. Our Eschweiler site in Junglinster remains the heart of our operational and commercial activities. The brand continues to supply the domestic market, just as it always has.

Where are the products manufactured?

All our products (Kachkéis, creams and quark) are made in specialist dairies and cheese-making facilities, using recipes tailored to the tastes of Luxembourg consumers. Each facility adheres to strict specifications and the highest food safety standards, ensuring consistent quality from one batch to the next.

Is Luxembourgish milk used in your product?

We understand your concern! Our recipes haven’t changed, and they won’t change. The quality, taste and production standards remain exactly the same. The product you pick up from the shelf today is the same as yesterday’s, and will remain so tomorrow.

What happens to the Luxembourg milk that is collected today?

The milk collected in Luxembourg is condensed in Eschweiler and then transported to other sites across Europe to be processed into industrial dairy ingredients.

What is the relationship between EKABE and Lactalis?

EKABE joined the Lactalis family group in 1989. This merger has ensured the brand’s long-term future and enabled it to continue operating in Luxembourg for over 35 years.

Does EKABE still support the local economy?

Yes, absolutely. Operations there are continuing, along with the local jobs that go with them. On a day-to-day basis, we work with service providers, transport companies and distributors, and these partnerships are continuing. We intend to keep our 90-year-old presence in the country alive, not just preserve it. We are not questioning our presence on the field or our role in the local economy, as Eschweiler remains the operational and commercial heart of EKABE.
